Visiting the dentist can often cause a sense of anxiety and fear for many patients: memories of cold tools, medicinal smelling rooms, and the sound of a drill plague the memories of many adults who have had a previous bad experience in the dentist’s chair.
Even though we know that going to the dentist twice a year for regular checkups is the most important factor for maintaining oral health, many people push proven logic aside and let childhood fears take over. But G Family Dentistry in Plano can help with dental anxiety. Sedation dentistry has taken the fear out of going to the dentist by offering patients several options for “sedating” their fears and allowing them to feel relaxed during a procedure.
Drs. Grapevine and Goodowitz of G Family Dentistry offer three types of sedation dentistry to their Plano area patients:
–Nitrous Oxide Sedation (commonly known as laughing gas) is breathed in. It relaxes patients while allowing them to remain aware of their surroundings. It wears off quickly, allowing them to drive themselves home after the appointment.
–Oral sedation is a pill that is taken before the procedure begins. It will make the patient feel as if they are in the early stages of sleep. They will need someone to drive them home.
–IV Sedation is administered by an anesthesiologist who remains on the premises for the duration of the procedure. This sedation method is like being in a deep sleep. The patient won’t remember much about the procedure using this method. They will need someone to drive them home.
Whichever method the patient chooses, the fear of going to the dentist can be thing of the past! There is no need to avoid the dentist and increase your risk of developing dental health problems that can also affect overall health.
