Feeling anxious about the dentist? Sedation dentistry can help! | G Family Dentistry, Plano

Dental anxiety is a common problem that keeps many people from visiting the dentist for preventive care and exams. Unfortunately, this can also translate from a parent or caregiver to a young child, possibly laying the foundation for a lifetime of oral health problems. Modern dentistry offers tremendous benefits to patients who suffer from anxiety, including sedation dentistry.

Dr. Jacob Grapevine and Dr. Wayne Goodowitz offer their Plano, TX area patients the option of sedation dentistry in order to make them feel relaxed and comfortable during any procedure they may need, including preventive care. They offer 3 kinds of sedation dentistry in order to meet the specific needs of their patients and will take the time to discuss the benefits of each in order to find the method that is most suitable:

  • Nitrous Oxide sedation: commonly known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide sedation is a popular option because it completely relaxes the patient while allowing them control over their normal functions. Patients can drive themselves home after a procedure.
  • Oral sedation: administered in the form of a pill, oral sedation will cause a patient to “fall asleep” before a procedure. It will take some time for this to completely wear off and patients using this type of sedation will need an escort home.
  • IV sedation: IV sedation is administered by a medical anesthesia professional in our office. Medication is delivered intravenously and the patient is monitored throughout a procedure. This type of sedation puts a patient into a deep sleep, where little is remembered afterwards. Patients will need an escort home after treatment with IV sedation.

G Family Dentistry understands the importance of preventive care in maintaining optimal oral health as well as good overall health: studies have shown a link between poor dental health and cardiovascular disease, diabetes and an increased risk of stroke.

If you have been avoiding the dentist because of anxiety, contact G Family Dentistry and schedule a consultation to discuss sedation dentistry and how it can help you!
